Web O Joy: Russert and Root

I was really sad to hear of Tim Russert’s recent passing. The man was good people. And in a year where I’ve been paying more attention than ever to the political news, he enhanced my viewing experiencing by serving as a friendly face amid the egos and bickering. And the good will that I bore his mug was due in part to the striking resemblance he bore to Das Root. Lemme explain.
Stephen Root is a fabulous character actor. Many know him as Milton, the quirky, staple coveting everyman from “Office Space” who gets pushed one step too far by office bureaucracy.

But Root is literally everywhere—from goofy comedies like “Dodgeball” to a smattering of Cohen Bros. flicks. And the man could be Tim Russert’s twin...

The resemblance was even more striking when Russert donned glasses.

I think the real reason I started up the Web O Joy feature was that I often look to the internet to confirm that I’m not alone in some of my quirkier musings. And it seems that I am one of a whole slew of folks who have noted the striking Russert/Root similarity—some even proposing that Root should replace Russert on “Meet the Press.” Whatever happens to “Meet the Press,” Tim Russert will always be the Stephen Root of News to me.
